Hopefully we will have a more crowded forum on this one.

I'm interested in hearing from someone as well on this. I started playing again just a few weeks ago after a 30 year vacation from the game. When I learned to play as a kid, we played a version whereby there were no positional / defensive flicks. So, I have actually never played the game under proper rules. My friend brought the game back from the UK when I was in fifth grade and we played voraciously but under the rules he learned. Not sure where he got them.

probably they were the first rules issued for the game for newcomers which change during the years ...the ones of today with some changes are the experts rules with the defensive flick on them [ I believe but I am not sure for a while was allowed just when the opponent was entering with the ball in your shooting zone]. Today with the modern equipment and the rules I believe we have in our hands the best simulation of soccer ever created as a tabletop game.

Body positioning is actually pretty important. I remember a few years back I had an annoying habit of picking up and setting down my right foot on important flicks. It definitely plays with your mind.
Been able to break out of a habit such as that, but other players like Benny Nuger, if you watch him play also have bad habits. When Benny plays he almost always leans back as he flicks. This messes with your power and accuracy for sure.
As for my body positioning, I think you want to be generally leaning over the pitch rather than farther away. Only reason I can think of to defend this is that when I distance myself from the pitch as I flick or play I don't feel as involved or in the right frame of mind. Generally when I play at my best, is when I am really focused and if you watch videos I am almost always leaning over the tables during my best matches.
